DAY 16: 'WINNER TAKE ALL' Combined Hearing
The Legislative Hearing Schedule for Thursday, January 30th
This is an important session.
The ‘winner take all’ proposals are on the docket. LB3 and LR24CA would effectively eliminate Nebraska’s split electoral vote process.
LB84 allows members of the clergy to act as school counselors as long as they do not represent themselves as psychologists. This is just another way to chip away at the essential wall of separation of church and state; effectively allowing religion to wedge its foot in the door of public education. This bill is 27 pages long and legislators are banking on you not noticing this little poison pill that Senator Rountree (a pastor) has slipped into your tea.
There is a whole slate of ‘death by a thousand cuts’ proposals designed to slowly and deliberately destroy public schools. Make no mistake: This is the end goal. These measures target public institutions from every angle.
Please let our legislators know your thoughts on these proposed bills. We know how exhausting it is to keep up with the endless barrage of culture war bills and outright attacks on democracy. We hope that by sharing these schedules and highlighting some of the more egregious bills we can move the watchful citizens to take action. Power to the people.
