Scottsbluff has joined Alvo in creating an environmentally dangerous tire hoard
Editor’s note: We have previously written about the tire hoard and environmental disaster in Alvo, Nebraska back in May of 2021. This is so much more than just a dangerous tire hoard - it is a tale of corruption in small town government, bullies, Oath Keepers, and an absolute disregard for the health and safety of the residents of Alvo. You can read that article here: A Nebraska Village's Failed Government is Playing with Toxic Fire Near Lincoln - Seeing Red (seeingrednebraska.com). You can also listen to the Seeing Red Nebraska podcast about it here. Since our reporting, not much has changed. Read on for the latest from Alvo resident Brandy Jordan. For a state that prides itself on its use of stolen land for farming and recreation, it sure seems the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy is doing a piss-poor job of managing corporations that lean towards being dangerous for families. Once again there is a growing pile of used tires in Alvo but this time the current owner and tire prince has another one growing in Scottsbluff. Current numbers in Alvo have grown to over 68,000 tires on the ground and Scottsbluff is sitting at over 71,000. We all know there is no governmental oversight to all of the problems that Alvo has been facing for years, but there is also a clear lack of communication and enforcement between departments.
When governmental officials are given free rein to do as they please with no consequence and the departments meant to provide oversight couldn’t be bothered to consider a small village like Alvo residents (whose population is nearly 30% children), we can only imagine how much worse it’ll get in the future.
